Description

Can we know that there is a world of tables, chairs and other people which we see, hear and touch? If so how can we know this? Does our knowledge begin with perceptual experience of these things? What role can our memory, the testimony of others and inductive and deductive inference play in the acquisition and retention of knowledge? We shall look at the views of Descartes, Locke and Hume on these questions as well as those of contemporary epistemologists.
